Putting the Web and E-mail to work at
Home or your place of work

Ways to Access the Web
I use my laptop to access Internet browsers to do homework, check e-mail, shop, check
my bank account balance and listen to music. I mainly use it at home or I might take it
with me to class if the class requires. You can use it at coffee shops, libraries, public
transportation if there is wireless Internet connection, and workplaces if it is a required
part of the job.
Ways to Access the Web
I use my iPhone to stream music, social media, check e-mail, browse the Internet and other
apps. I use it anywhere I go except in class and while I’m working.
Ways to Access the Web
Video game consoles are now able to access the Internet. You can compete against
other players online, listen to music, browse the Internet, and even shop online. Since
they aren’t mobile they are mostly used in homes.
How I Access the Web
Tablets are able to access Internet, check e-mail, purchase digital applications and files,
access social media and other various web ventures. Tablets have become accessible enough
that some people use them instead of personal computers at home and even at work.
How I Access the Web
Smart televisions now have access to online content. They can be used at home for
entertainment purposes. They can be used at work and various events for presentation
purposes.
Why the web is important to me:
1. I can find out information about any topic or subject without being an expert in it or
spending time finding knowledge in books.
Why the web is important to me:
2. It keeps me organized. It keeps track of assignments and when they are due and displays
when I completed it.
Why the web is important to me:
3. I use social media but mainly to keep up with subjects I care about in a microblog form.
Why the web is important to me:
4. I can order items off of the Internet that may be rare, far away, or I can find it for cheaper on
Internet services.
Why the web is important to me:
5. I am able to communicate with people indirectly when I need an instant (or relatively quick)
response.
Social Media
I use each platform differently:
• Facebook I use to keep in touch with friends. I can see what they post about and
photos. The messenger app on Facebook is rather convenient.
• Twitter and Instagram I mostly use to follow topics, blogs, and news sources. In my
opinion the microblog format is more convenient and presentable.
Security
Norton protects my computer from viruses and other threats. It even notifies me if a website
comes from a trusted source.
E-mail client vs Web Mail
E-mail client:
With e-mail clients, messages are sent to the computer and the computer stores a copy of it so
that way it is easier to open and even available to access it and the files when offline.
E-mail client vs Web Mail
Web Mail:
With web mail, the Internet is the source of your ability to read and send e-mails. The only
way to access them is through the Internet.
