Objectives



Know hardware and software required to connect to the
internet,
Know how to install and configure communications software,
Know how to setup email clients to send, receive and manage
emails.
Task E Overview


Task E requires you to produce a user manual for somebody to
use to get connected to the internet.
It needs to cover:




The hardware, software and information requirements,
Instructions on how to install a range of communications software,
Instructions on how to configure web browsing software,
Instructions on how to configure email clients to be able to send, receive
and handle emails.

The first part of task e requires you to explain the use of each
piece of hardware, software and information required to
connected to the internet.
Install Communication Software


The next part of your guide requires you to show step by step
how to install and configure a range of communication
software.
You can choose from:






Browser software
Email clients
FTP clients
Chat clients
Installation packages will be available in resources or on CD for
you to use,
At least one piece of software overall should be installed but do
not install more that one from each category – that would be
too much.
Configure Browser Software


The next part of your guide requires you to show step by step
how to make configuration changes to web browsing software.
You will need to do at least 2 changes from:




Add pages to favourites/bookmarks,
Configure the home page,
Alter settings such as display and security.
For higher marks each change needs to be fully explained in
terms of purpose, functionality and how it assists the user.
Configure Email Clients


The next part of your guide requires you to show step by step
how to configure an email client to be able to send, receive and
handle email:
Your guide will need to cover:




Adding accounts to email clients by configuring settings such as:
username, password, pop3 server address (incoming mail) and SMTP
server address (outgoing mail), exchange server address,
Demonstrate basic email handling – send, receive, creation of address
books, creation of file structures, how to manually file mail into different
folders,
Demonstrate automatic email handling – auto filters into specific folders.
A sheet with the school POP3 and SMTP server addresses will
be available from your teacher.
