ME 241 Spring 2012
What are we going to do, and what do we have to learn?
Figure out a good question (project, story)
Use the library to get started: search and reading skills
Design experiments to answer the question: instrumentation?
Lab safety
Measure stuff: use instruments, usually through LabVIEW
Analyze data, which means some statistics

It is very important
to interrupt me
if you lose
the thread of the argument
Otherwise
we’re all wasting our time

We plan to teach you what you need as we go along
The library will help with library skills
The Writing Center will help with writing skills
There will be an hour on lab safety
Scott and I will talk about instruments
I will have things to say about statistics
The project page on the web site has a lot of project information
Scott and I can give you more
You’ll need a lab notebook (one per group), which I’ll talk about today.
You’ll need to form groups of three — twos if necessary, no fours!
I need this by January 25.
We are going to be using a lot of different rooms and a lot of different starting times
You’ll need to pay attention to the on-line schedule
http://www.me.rochester.edu/courses/ME241/daily_schedule.html
It has a link to a calendar that I hope is accurate
We can breeze through the calendar pages now.
