Note: Talks should be 10-12 minutes with 3-5 minutes for Q&A; times will be strictly enforced. Posters should
follow this format as much as possible, especially in putting the research into context.
Slide 1: Your introduction should include:
• The hypothesis or question(s) being investigated.
• The big picture: how does this research fit in with your Center’s
research and with the other EaGLe Centers?
Slide 2: Indicators:
• List the indicator(s) being developed.
• Describe how they fit into indicator research, both in general and
specific to your topic area.
Slides 3-X: Research discussion:
• Methods will have to be brief and generalized.
• Focus on what is necessary to understand the results.
Results slides:
• Provide brief but in-depth results that illustrate the most important
points of your indicators research.
• If an indicator(s) has not yet been developed, address how it (they) will
be developed based on the results presented.

Concluding slides:

Show how you have addressed (are addressing) your hypothesis or
research question.

Put your research into the bigger context. Address the following
questions about how your research is developing better environmental
indicators:
•
How does this indicator/research advance the science of environmental
indicators? Why is this better than what we have now?
•
Is the indicator stressor-specific and useful for diagnosis of cause?
•
Can the indicator provide diagnostic information useful for separating
anthropogenic from natural causes of stress to the ecosystem?
•
What are the spatial and temporal scales over which the indicator operates?
What do users of this indicator need to know about these scales to use the
indicator properly?
•
How is the indicator to be used and interpreted? What is the baseline,
benchmark, or reference condition for the indicator? Who will likely be
monitoring (using) this indicator (who is the client)?
•
Where does the indicator fit with the other indicators being developed by the
Centers? How can it be integrated with other indicators?

that has your grant number, if you have it. You should also include the disclaimer language;
again, if you have disclaimer language specific to your program, use that.
