Transcript Lesson 3 - LISTENING TO YOURSELF
You will learn how to examine points of selfdoubt in your lives and begin to think about
how you can overcome those doubts and
translate them into feelings of selfconfidence.
LISTEN TO YOURSELF AND FIND
WHAT YOU LOVE
• Learning to listen to yourself
is one of the hardest parts of
defining your own road in life.
• If you can compare shedding
the Noise to a pool filter,
listening to yourself is like
playing with magnets.
• When two magnets are matched up
correctly, there is an invisible force
that pulls them together.
• When they are out of sync with each
other, that same force pushes them
apart.
• It is the same when you are doing
something that you love – you can
feel the force that attracts you to it,
even if you don’t know why.
• Listening to yourself is about
looking for all the times in your life
when it feels like magnets are
pulling towards each other.
• Those are the things that will
ultimately give meaning to your life
and make you happy.
OVERCOMING SELF-DOUBT
One hurdle that is often in the
way of listening to yourself is
not feeling confident in who
you are.
We call this SELF DOUBT.
Whether these self-doubt feelings come
from others or from yourself – it is important
to develop the confidence needed to
eliminate those feelings and make decisions
that reflect what is important to you.
• While self-doubting feelings might seem like
something only you are experiencing, it is
important to remember that even the most famous
of talented athletes or movie star or well known
musicians have struggled with self-doubt.
• By shedding the Noise, trusting your gut feelings
and listening to yourself, you’ll find that self-doubt
is much easier to conquer.
One of the best ways to defeat those self-doubting
feelings is to turn that doubt into self-confidence.
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
• Whenever you have a negative message pop
into your head, you will want to make an effort to
replace that Noise with a positive message (you
have to learn how to change the way you think).
• By replacing negative messages with positive
ones, the conversations with your own head will
become much more optimistic.
With optimism comes
self-confidence, and
with self-confidence,
listening to yourself
becomes a whole lot
easier.
EXERCISE 4
• Typically when you listen to music, you get to
listen to what you want to hear – the music that
makes you feel good.
• You want the same to be true when you are
listening to yourself.
• Much like building a musical playlist that you
enjoy hearing.
• Create a “life playlist” to live by. Construct your
list with positive words to combat the moments
when you encounter self-doubt as well as
constructive messages you can give yourself
when you are feeling pressure from the Noise.
• In a word document – list your “life playlist.”
Write down ten positive statements that will
help you encounter self-doubt. Then write a
paragraph on how your playlist will help you
get through all the Noise in your life.
