o During the first 6 weeks of the life of the
chick, a well balanced, high density diet is of
particular importance. In some instances the
chick’s product is fed for more than 6 weeks,
especially if body weights are below
standard for their age.

 Grower mash
o The nutritional requirements during the
growing phase are vastly different from
those during the starting period, with the
primary difference involving the amount of
protein in the growing diet. This is a critical
period in the development of an egg-type
pullet, for how well she is grown will have an
important bearing on her productivity during
the laying period.
o Grower mash is recommended from 7 to 13
weeks.

 Pre-layer mash
o Pre-layer product is commonly used between
14 to 16 weeks. The purpose of pre-layer
feed is to increase the calcium levels in the
diet above the level fed in the grower period
to provide calcium reserve for the initiation
of eggshell formation. It is also used to
stimulate the nutrient intake of protein and
energy for pullets that are lower in body
weight than standard body weights for the
strain and season.
o Pre-layer mash prepares hens to move
smoothly from growing to laying phase.

 Layer mash
o Feeding the laying bird is only a continuation
of feeding the growing pullet by supplying
the necessary ingredients in the correct
proportions so that bird can produce an
abundant number of eggs. Layer mash
product is a well balanced ration in digestible
protein, energy, vitamins and minerals as
well as essential amino - acids.
o Layer mash is recommended from 17 to 33
weeks.

 Pullet rations
 Layer (phase 2) mash
o As the hen ages, the thickness of the egg
shell usually declines. Moreover, the
mobilization of calcium decreases to less
than 50 % after 40 weeks of age. Layer
(phase 2) is perfectly adequate for hens in
full production starting from 34 weeks until
the end of lay. Layer (phase 2) is a continuity
of Layer mash and mainly designed for
farmers who are looking to optimize their
resources.

o A very cost effective product with all
scientific requirements fulfilled for minimum
feed conversion ratio, maximum weight gain
and lowest possible production cost. This
feed contents vegetable protein source and
natural amino acids. The vegetable source
gives good aroma to the feed.

 Starter mash
o Starter feed is designed in a very precise
manner for healthy growth of the chick
which carries high immunity to face the
possible stresses like diseases, climate
variation, vaccinations, handling etc. A bird
requires 1 Kg of starter feed to shift to
finisher feed. Rational balance of all required
nutrients is maintained in this feed so as to
get faster and maximum weight gain.

o This Feed is advised after consuming starter
feed till the point of disposal of the birds.
Finisher mash is designed at a very high
energy level with well balanced protein,
energy ratio to get faster, and maximum
weight gain with lowest feed conversion ratio

 Importance of Feeding Breeder rations
o Research shows that nutrient supply to the breeder is of consequence to
chick quality and production performance. This places greater emphasis
on the nutritionist providing the correct nutrient density diet and the flock
manager to provide appropriate feed intake to the bird coming into lay
and through the production period.
o Breeder nutrition directly affects the health, egg production and fertility
of the birds. There is considerable evidence that breeder nutrition affects
the progeny.

 Importance of Feeding Breeder rations
o Breeder hens are producing the chicks that are the basis of our Poultry
business. Feeding them correctly will result in healthy, virile chicks, which
will have the immune system and skeletal framework required to deal
with challenges and achieve their growth potential. The increase in cost of
feeding a breeder hen properly compared to the total cost of producing a
mature broiler chicken is marginal.

 Turkey rations
o Turkeys do well with several different feeds, depending on their stage of
development. Turkey poults have the genetic potential to achieve
maximum live weight, efficient food conversion, increased liveability and
good carcass conformation. This potential can only be obtained by careful
management and sound nutrition.
o Poults are often started off with a Prestarter ration. It is high in protein
because turkeys grow quickly and are not eating too much.
o As Poults grow and reach 9 weeks of age, they are changed to a grower
diet, and later changed to a finishing diet.
o Anticoccidiostats are added.

 Ostrich rations
o Ostriches have a very efficient feed conversions during the first 210 days
of their life. After 330 days they become inefficient and their feed
conversion drops.
o It is important that chicks are fed optimally when young so that they
attain the ideal slaughter weight of 90-100kg as quickly as possible.
o The DOC up to 13 weeks of age may be fed on chick starter which is high
in crude protein. Up to 27 weeks, they should be switched to grower.
From 28 weeks to slaughter, Ostriches should be fed on maintenance diet.
o Fiber is not considered an essential nutrient but is recommended at
relatively high levels to maintain an optimal gut micoflora and motility.

 Advantage of using concentrates
o Concentrates products are especially designed for farmers who have
access to some raw materials at a competitive prices and can produce
feed on their own, at their own farms at very economical cost with best
quality.
o Since the concentrates are tested in our well equipped laboratory, the
farmers do not need to worry regarding the quality of the finished feed. It
is not feasible and realistic for some farmers to achieve good results when
they produce their own feed without testing essentials raw materials and
micro-ingredients.

 Catfish rations
o Catfish are naturally omnivores. Adults tend to be more carnivorous,
eating other fish or aquatic animals.
o If the feed has less than 30 % digestible protein, catfish tend to eat each
other so as to supplement their protein requirement.
o Growth rates are also poor when the protein levels are less than 30 %.
o The younger the fish are, the more protein they need in their diets.

 Catfish rations
o Use the correct feed for the size of fish being reared at the recommended
frequency.
o The fishes nutritional requirements differ with their age and the size of
pellet they are able to consume depends on their mouth size.
o Farmer must always give catfish the largest pellet that they can consume
whole.
o If the pellets are too small, they spend a lot of energy trying to consume
enough, and if they are too big, they will unable to consume them.

 Catfish rations
o TOPFEEDS extruded feed meets the requirement of catfish (Clarias
gariepinus) because the feed is tailored to meet the specific nutritional
requirements of the fish at the different stages of growth.
o Each pellet is complete in nutritional value and remains intact in water for
at least 30 minutes.
o Extruded fish feed do not sink to the pond bottom, reduces the potential
negative effects on pond water quality resulting from excess feed
decomposing in the pond.
o TOPFEEDS extruded feed is a high quality feed especially designed for
African catfish producers ,it is rich in protein and energie and contains the
