Some gaps
• Data at small area level
- MSOA/USOA level
• Robust primary care data
- e.g. hypertension, obesity, diabetes
- based on practice not residence
• Self-reported survey data

• Aims to provide a snapshot of local
patterns

(35+) (1,050 all ages from alcohol)
• Attributable fractions for Wales
calculated
Measuring lifestyle: methods and
limitations

• Fractions for Wales calculated using
- Relative risks from published studies (US data)
- Prevalence of smokers and ex-smokers from
2007 WHS (Wales-level)
• Fractions applied to number of deaths
• Limitations (assumptions)
