• Agents used for the treatment of Cancer
• Cancer is abnormal cell growth (tumour)
• Clinical Conditions:
Hodgkin’s disease, Leukemia,
Cancer of lung, breast, stomach,
bladder, colon, prostate, testicles,
uterus, skin etc.,

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS
• Contains a large number of Indole alkaloids
• Out of them 20 are Dimeric Indole - dihydroindole
alkaloids
• Among which VINCRISTINE and VINBLASTINE are
most significant
CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS
• Vincristine contains Indole alkaloid part
CATHARANTHINE and Dihydroindole alkaloid part
called VINDOLINE
• Other alkaloids AJMALICINE, LOCHNERINE,
SERPENTINE and TETRAHYDROALSTONINE
USES
• The alkaloids are having ONCOLYTIC activity
• Vincristine Sulphate and Vinblastine Sulphate are
Anti-neoplastic agents
• Vincristine Sulphate given I.V. in the treatment of
Leukemia in children
• Used in Hodgkin’s disease
• Vinca also has Hypotensive & Anti-diabetic action
