Implemented activities related to the SDGs in Mongolia
A steering committee with working groups was established under the Prime
Minister for SDG implementation/monitoring.
Established the 9 working group to develop, to define national indicators,
methodologies for the SDGs;
-first 8 working group for implementations, targets and
determination. It included ministries, agencies, academic
institutions, public and private companies NGO,s etc.
-9th working group for methodology for SDG indicators. Members
of this working group are staffs NSO of Mongolia
Two assessments were already conducted:
1. Joint Review of National Data Availability for SDGs by NSO and
UNDP in December, 2015
2. A re-assessment of National Data Availability for SDGS by NSO
in March, 2016

National Statistics in Mongolia
Constant efforts made for strengthening NSO and Data Ecosystem of Mongolia .
A three stage national program
• Stage 1: 2006 – 2010 – The goal of this first stage was to improve capacity building of
NSO in general (HR capacity, Official Statistical framework etc)
• Stage 2: 2011 – 2015 – The overall goal of this stage was to focus on improving
institutional framework and organizational structure, statistical data dissemination,
statistical methods, and introducing advanced ICT technologies.

related
• Stage 3: 2016 - 2020 – Further focusing on introducing more advanced technologies for
seeking additional data sources, bringing the latest international advances/standards,
putting a nationwide Data standard for Data revolution to happen in Mongolia.
Key initiatives:
• A unified database of the government with a common standard (standard, code,
classification etc.)
Prep for
Data Eco
System

Key Initiative: 1 DB + 1 Standard
One unified DB and One unified standard will be the base for Data Revolution.
An assessment is
being conducted
on over 40
databases of 25
state
organizations.
-Land tenure data
-Health data
-Crime data
-Transportation
data
Opportunity of
the required
disaggregation for
SDG indicators
will be enabled.
Example:
Information on
average salary is
being generated
directly from
database of Social
Insurance.

INDUSTRIAL RELATED INDICATORS IN SDG
• 7.2.1 Renewable energy share in the total final energy consumption
• 9.2.1 Manufacturing value added as a proportion of GDP per capita
• 9.2.2 Manufacturing employment as a proportion of total
employment
• 9.3.1 Proportion of small scale industries in total industry value added
• 9.3.2 Proportion of small scale industries with loan or line of credit
• 9.4.1 CO2 emission per unit of value added

total value added.
In conclusion
SDG related implemented activities in Mongolia would towards national level and also more statistically in level. We also
focus on the training and advocacy beyond the assessment.
Two assessments were already conducted, looking for big data availability.
The readiness assessment indicators of SDGs assessed by jointly international and national
consultants and results have been disseminated.
Organized the SDG introduction seminar which targeted to the heads and senior officers of
statistics divisions of departments of capital city, province.
We are going to organize training and advocacy include ministries and agencies, NGOs,
academic institutions, private and public sector enterprises, and journalists etc.
Sustainable development work with the parliamentary working group to coordinate with the
framework concept of long-term development of Mongolia 2030 approved by the Parliament.
Participated on the National and international meetings, seminars and workshops to prepare
reports and presentations, participation and promotion of the goal.
Mongolia has joined the High level working group of SDG from Asia
Identified national SDG indicators. We have defined total 330 indicators at national level which
included global SDG indicators and will be submitted to the National Committee for a discussion/
an approval.
