I. Self Esteem
• The confidence, pride, and respect
one has for oneself.
• Self-esteem consists of five domains.
A. Identity
• Who you are. This includes personality,
attitudes, and beliefs.
B. Connection
• The need to belong and feel
appreciated.
C. Competence
• Knowledge of what you can do.
D. Purpose
• Having goals and making progress
toward reaching them.
E. Power
• Self-control over thoughts, words,
attitudes, choices, and actions.
II. Self-Centered Behavior
• Behavior in which a person acts in ways to
fulfill their own needs and desires with
little regard for other’s needs and wishes.
III. Self-Destructive Behavior
• Behavior in which a person harms
themself.
• Behaviors include:
– Drug use
– Alcohol abuse
– Self-abuse
IV. Self-Loving Behavior
• Healthful and responsible behavior that
indicates a person believes they are
worthwhile and loveable.
