Long Term Planning…
…With Short term indicators
 Death and disease are the ultimate
outcomes tobacco prevention is trying to
reduce


However interventions are not immediately
apparent in tobacco prevention
Multiple points exist prior to death or
disability that will predict reductions

Nearly an infinite amount actually
Types of Data

Qualitative




Provides information in a more narrative format on
individual thoughts and feelings
Attempts to answer the How and Why
Small intimate data collection method
Quantitative



Provides information on the number of units within the
sampling frame
Attempts to answer the What, When, and Where of
situations
Larger removed data collection method
Methods Exist to convert Qualitative information into a more Qualitative Presentation


Sampling Frame


The sampling frame of a survey is the pool of
potential subjects from which the survey participants
are sampled. Examples include the Kansas
population, all youth in specific grades, Business
owners, Physicians, and cities
The information collected has a different interpretation
based on who is sampled and what questions are
being asked of them. Asking someone about their
personal habits is different than asking a business
owner about their workplace policy
