Housing
• Most older people want to remain in their own
homes and value services that help them
achieve this, such as home care, befriending,
social opportunities in their communities and
neighbourhoods.
However
• A significant proportion would welcome the
chance to move to more suitable housing.

• Problem neighbours –
• “I don’t feel safe in the communal areas of our
flats and have seen lots of drug raids and
things so it’s frightening. But the council says
that’s not a reason to prioritise moving me but
I see empty places in nicer areas. The wardens
side with the youngsters and don’t see how it
is a problem for me. It makes me sad every
day.” Olive, 87

Ageing Policy in Wales
“The Welsh approach seems
to be the most coherent
long-term commitment to
improving the position of
older people of any
administration in the UK in
the last decade”.
IPPR (2009)
And in the end, it's not the years in your life that
count. It's the life in your years”
Abraham Lincoln
