Priorities
Reduction of major communicable diseases and prevention
of lifestyle related non-communicable diseases
Including HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, the use of illicit drugs, cardiovascular
diseases and the consequences of socially distressing conditions
Enhancement and promotion of healthy and socially
rewarding lifestyles
Including determinants of health and social well-being, such as sexual
behaviour, alcohol consumption, smoking, the use of illicit drugs, peoples’
social and work environments and social skills
Implementation (areas of action)
Monitoring and assessment of the situation in the region
Development of policy recommendations
Facilitation of the coordinated development and
implementation of regional projects
Dissemination of information, reach-out to and involvement of
relevant stakeholders
EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (1)
The NDPHS proposals included in the EUSBSR Action Plan
Health included as a part of the Priority Area 12 aimed to
maintain and reinforce attractiveness of the Baltic Sea Region
•
NDPHS accepted the Lead Partner role for health priority sub-area
•
Three main health-related priority actions:
(i) Contain the spread of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis
(ii) Fight health inequalities through the improvement of primary healthcare
(iii) Prevent lifestyle-related non-communicable diseases and ensure good
social and work environments by developing comprehensive policies and
actions in the entire region to prevent and minimise harm from tobacco
smoking, alcohol and drugs use to individuals, families and society (especially
young people)
EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (2)
Three flagship projects included in the EUSBSR Action Plan:
(i) Alcohol and drug prevention among youth
(ii) Improvement of public health by promotion of equitably distributed
high quality primary health care systems
(iii) "ICT for Health" – Strengthening social capacities for the utilisation
of eHealth technologies in the framework of the ageing population

Solid platform established: NDPHS Expert and Task Groups
Various stakeholders identified and engaged
Useful facilitation tools offered by the NDPHS: Website (incl.
