KEY POINTS FROM REPORT
• 2.7% of Australia’s total carbon emissions.
•7% of total electricity generated in Australia.
•Of the 2.7% of Australia’s carbon emissions, enterprises (businesses and
government) accounted for 1.62% and domestic for the remainder.
•Data centres are the single biggest ICT consumers of electricity and
hence emitters of CO2 – responsible for 34.4% of total ICT emissions.
•Households were responsible for a similar level of emissions to data
centres at 34.6% of total ICT emissions.
•Be aware of your power consumption
• Energy use and carbon reduction programs with outsourced ICT
providers
•Newer operating systems allow computer systems to be put into sleep
mode
•Investigate the use of carbon offset programs to offset ICT carbon
emissions.
•Implement server virtualisation as a means of saving a significant
amount of energy.
