• Describe Your Feelings
• Don’t Criticize or Argue
• Offer Specific Help

Ask another friend to help.
• The more people speaking the truth and offering
support, the better.
• Be sure to discuss your concerns and guidelines for
intervening with the second friend.

Follow through.
• Do what you said you would do to help your friend.
• Be sure your friend knows that your offers of support
can be counted on.

similarly serious situation, find a more experienced
