• China represent the most important import and export market

• You can find any type of imported high quality goods
• In supermarkets (Coles and Woolworths) you can find any type of
food and affordable prices
Environment
Extraordinarily beautiful natural environment. Strong feelings ... .. sometimes

Doing business in Australia
• It is a mature economy
• There is everything and in certain case an oversupply
• Imports are subject to taxes that raise the product price (29% on wine)
• With few exceptions Australia is risk adverse (very different from US)
Advice
• Leverage the support of the institutional structures (Chamber of Commerce, ICE, Consulate, Embassy)
and by specialised companies established in Australia
• Create a unique, very focused offer
• Analyze the local demand and your competition
• Choose wisely the location (from Brisbane to Perth it’s a 6 hours flight and there is a 3 hours time
difference)
• Consider frequent and long periods on in Australia.
• Overcoming the mistrust from Australians (hire local staff with good network and reputation)
• Budget high setup costs (offices, administrative and legal services, contracts, management, staff,
advertising, ... ..)
• Think about a long-term return ( more than three years)
• Do not be discouraged by the "reactive slowness" and the "prolonged absences"
