Review:
Nutrition – process in which we take in and use food.
Nutrient – Components of food that supplies us with
energy, serve as building material, help maintain or repair
body parts and support growth.
Basic Nutrients: 1) Proteins, 2) Carbohydrates, 3) Fats,
4) Vitamins, 5) Minerals, and 6) Water
Calorie - A unit used to measure the energy used by the
body, and the energy that food supplies the body.
Why Do We Need To Eat?
To supply your body with energy
To meet your nutritional needs
To satisfy our hunger
To satisfy our appetite
Hunger vs Appetite
Hunger is a feeling of physical discomfort that is
caused by the body’s need for nutrients.
Appetite is a desire for food that is based on emotions
and other factors rather than nutritional need.
Unlike hunger, which is an inborn response, appetite is
learned. (example: popcorn at the movies)
