Careers in the fine arts--painting, sculpture, printmaking-represent only a fraction of the careers available to trained
artists.
What kinds of interests, skills, training, and experience would
be needed to work in these jobs? Select 2 careers you find
interesting and conduct an Internet search to discover
colleges, universities, or art institutes that offer training in
these fields. Record your findings in your Sketchbook.
Take a look at the Occupational Outlook Handbook to find
out what it takes to do different art jobs:
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/Arts-and-Design/Artdirectors.htm#tab-7
Using the link you just looked at:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos092.htm, pick a nontraditional art career (in other words something
unusual or different, but related to art in some way.)
Answer the following questions either in a Word
document or in the Comments section for 20 points:
1. What non-traditional career did you choose?
2. Why do you feel this career is non-traditional?
3. What is the averge salary for a person in this
career?
4. What training is required?
5. What is the job outlook for people choosing this
career?
6. Is this something you would ever consider? Why or
why not?
For this assignment you will pick an art related career, do lots of
research, and submit a powerpoint telling about the job. I would
like for you to go into detail about the career, and show pictures of
people on the job, the work setting, and whatever else you can find.
Be sure to answer these questions in your powerpoint:
What training is required?
Where can you get the training (what schools, etc.)?
What is the job outlook for this occupation?
What do you do in this job (duties and responsibilities)?
What is the salary range for people in this occupation?
The more slides you have, the better. Be creative with your slides; a
powerpoint for an art class should look good and be eye catching.
Upload your powerpoint to me using the link below.

Assignment:
The critical skills you use to think about
works of art can also be used in
thoughtful analysis of advertising
messages—or any other aspect of our
visual world. What is important about Art
and Advertising? How does advertising
effect society and the economy? How
important is the design of the advertising?
These are just some things to think about
when critiquing this poster and its design.
1. Write a complete critique of the
advertisement above in a WORD
document. Title it "Advertising Critique".
2. Use the 4 step critiquing process to
write this critique.
-Describe what you see.
-Analyze the way it is organized.
-Interpret what it is saying.
-Judge the overall aesthetic qualities.
**Upload the document to me using the
link on the main course page. This is
worth 20 points.

Final exam due by 12/14/12.

Pick an artist you really liked from what we’ve studied this semester.
Research him or her and submit both a Presentation and Product.
Presentation: Write a paper or create a Power Point presentation based on your
research of the artist’s life, style, and work. Your presentation must demonstrate
an understanding of the vocabulary you have studied this semester. Discuss the
use of the Elements and Principles of Art in your artist’s work or overall style/body
of work. Give specific examples.
Product: Produce a project that displays the type of work that artist does/or
did. (Include self-reflection. How does this piece reflect on what you have
learned?)
Straight copying and pasting from websites or other informational sources will not
be accepted! Tell me what you’ve learned, what you think, in YOUR OWN WORDS.
**Because this is your final exam, you will not post your project on a blog. You will
send the document and photo of the project to me using the link on the
assignment page. It will go directly in the gradebook.
Don’t forget to cite your sources!
