constituent, extract, or combinations of these ingredients.”

• Includes products such as an approved new drug, certified antibiotic,

• Free flavonoids can be absorbed across the
small intestinal mucosa, flavonoid glycosides
require hydrolysis by digestive enzymes
• Flavonoids then undergo methylation and/or
conjugation to glucuronic acid or sulfate
before excretion
• Conjugates excreted in the bile undergo
deconjugation in the gut, catalyzed by
microbiota, releasing flavonoid that may be
reabsorbed
