Eye Movement Tracking Device
Senior Design Project: P09004
Objective: To develop a system which can acquire EOG data, video of a subjects eye, and video of a scene; synchronize and
store the data for future processing and research
Motivation: Several professors from various departments in the Rochester Institute of Technology including the Electrical
Engineering, Imaging Science, Psychology Departments have an interest in a device which can simultaneously capture video
data of a subjects eye and the scene the eye is viewing as well as the biopotential data EOG. These professors which to use
this data in their research
Additional Information: More information concerning this project can be found at http:edge.rit.edu
System Concept: The selected system consist of an overall enclosure which will be carried on a subjects back, and an
eyewear device which supports the two cameras and electrodes. Inside the enclosure is all of the electrical circuitry used to
process and store the EOG and video data. Battery powered. (Picture of enclosure)
The system can be broken down into three subsystems, (1)EOG circuitry (2) Single Board Computer (3) Mechanical Systems
EOG Circuitry:
(PICTURE of board)
PCB contains:
-all analog filtering and amplification circuitry
-microprocessor for conversion of signals to digital data
-necessary protection circuitry for isolating the subject
Analog circuitry:
(schematic of analog circuitry
All filtering and amplification circuitry based on the ISCEV standards.
Frequency Range: 0 – 30 Hz
Expected Voltage Range: 0.25 – 1.00 mV
PSoC Microcontroller:
Utilizes Programmable System on Chip (PSoC) to acquire and convert analog signal to
digital data. Allows for digitally controllable level of gain for full use of dynamic range of
A/D converters. Transmits data over RS232 serial communication line to the SBC for
storage.
Single Board Computer (SBC):
(picture of SBC, power board and video board stacked)
SBC is a small low power PC. Allows for expansion through PC104 card. Expanded
with a video acquisition board and a power regulation board. Video data is acquired
through the video acquisition and compression board. EOG data is acquired through
the RS232 serial communication line. Each is synchronized , time stamped and stored.
Labview Interface:
(Picture of Labview GUI)
Used to setup the gain settings for EOG channel. Used to store and acquire data
Results/Conclusions:
-Analog Circuitry is capable of acquiring EOG data at a sufficient sampling rate and
reduction in degrading noise
-Video and EOG data can be acquired and stored into files
-Eyewear successfully holds cameras and without much vibrations
Mechanical Stuff:
