DCS remote control in NA62:
Equipment & Control Integration.
Mathias Dutour
NA62 Collaboration
9th December 2009
Outline.
Using ’Supported’ equipment for DCS
integration.
Use case: HYTEC Tell1 crate and ISEG HV
power supply.
Recommendations for equipment selection.
Supported equipment/protocols catalog

What ’Supported equipment’ means for DCS
integration.
Benefits for NA62: Save effort and time !
• Focus on the operation, not integration.
• Get benefit from others CERN users experience. ‘Scale’ effect,
trainings, showcases, guidelines.
• Support and maintenance of control sw. is clear.
• You are sure the functionality you need to control your
device is available.

Recommendations for equipment
selection.
The equipment capabilities are important, so is the control aspect!
Several situations could be encountered:
• Equipment is in the supported –solutions catalog.
• No particular problem, the situation is clear for performance,
functionality, maintenance and support for the control aspect.
• Equipment has a protocol that is in the supported –solutions catalog.
• Make sure the equipment control sw. matches your operation
expectations (functionality, performance). Preference is indeed given to
supported equipment.
• Clarify support/maintenance/licensing aspects of the sw. control aspect
with the manufacturer.
• Consult EN-ICE to verify that easy integration is possible in the
control system.
• Equipment/protocol not in catalog.
• Clarify the availability/possibilities of the remote control solution.
• Evaluate effort for custom-designed integration solution in the control
system.
• Consult EN-ICE to get support to design an efficient integration
solution for your control system. (E.g. NA62 L.A.V.)
