ERCOT – NERC Category C Analysis
•
ERCOT performs the NERC Category C analysis to assess the
system reliability the following contingencies:
N-1-1 contingencies:
Loss of a single transmission element (voltage 100 kV or above) with
system redispatch/adjustments plus loss of a single transmission
element (voltage 100 kV or above)
Category C single event contingencies:
NERC Category C and D contingencies included in the SSWG
contingency (submitted by the TSP’s)
Other Category C included in ERCOT 5YTP:
All double circuit contingencies and the G-1 + N-1 contingencies are
studied in the 5YTP and planned as ERCOT Category B
•
The ERCOT-NERC Category C steady-state analysis and
methodology is shown in the next two slides.
•
Dynamic analysis for category C is handled by a different process.
ERCOT – NERC Category C Analysis
•
ERCOT is currently performing the NERC Category C analysis (for
2012) based on the 2011 5YTP final case.
•
The results of the analysis will be share with the TO’s by August.
•
ERCOT - NERC Category C process and methodology is being
refined based on experience with 2012 analysis
•
NERC category C process may be added to the ERCOT Planning
Guide
