Need: Books/Notebooks
Continue to Build a better
understanding of Electric and
Magnetic Field behaviors
 Connection between Magnetic Fields
and the Earth as well as Technology
 Describe the relationships among the
three components of electricity.

Worksheet out.
Let’s finish the backside of this
worksheet
Motor worksheet
TURN IN questions
 Energy Audit Worksheet.
 Construct one for Vacation Home
▪ Imagine you have been hired to audit the
energy use of a vacation home in either
Vermont (Winter Home) or Cape Cod
(Summer Home)
▪ Come up with ideas on how the owners can
same money and energy
▪ Creatively construct a scoring sheet.
▪ You may use the audit from Friday as a guide
Horizontal Axis
-Designed to
interact with more
wind surface space
-Require much
larger tracts of land
-Act to push wind
around them
-Better in the ocean
Vertical Axis
-Designed to fit
into smaller
vertical spaces
-Does not require
large spans of land
-Some even try to
remove friction by
using maglev

Courtesy of our interest in property, many
individuals do not like the idea of having their
property affected by developing technologies.
Would you rather a nuclear power plant or a
wind turbine? How about neither?
Let us seek out articles and news reports
concerning the debate over these
technologies


What are some of the complaints that people
use as evidence against?
What are some of the evidences that
contradict these complaints?
Who is affected by these complaints or
evidence?
Is there any affect to the natural
environment?
Are there businesses related to these issues?
To be filled in by students…

Finish your Watt’s Worksheet
And if you are capable, continue working
on your research assignment

How a motor works


Calculating Power (Watts)
You need to either have Watts or Voltage
(volts) and Current (amps)
 P = power in watts
E = voltage in volts
I = current in amps
R = resistance in ohms

Using these equations to solve
 P = E2/R
P = I2 x R
P=E x I
P =
2
E /R
2
I
P= xR
P=ExI
Take the now calculated power, and convert it into
KW (usually means move the decimal point left 3
places).
Multiply this number by 1 hour, and then multiply it
by the cost per-KWH (.11 cents)
Ex.
Joey’s TV 180W
(0.180kw x 1 hr) = 0.180kwh x $0.11=
$0.0198
Run the same TV for 5hrs/day for 1 month? (30days)
$2.97
(3 dollars for one TV, how many TVs in your house?)
Run the same TV for 5hrs/day for 1 month?
(30days)
$2.97
(3 dollars for one TV, how many TVs in your
house?)
Try to figure out how much it costs to run
your tv’s in your house? Enter it in the
clickers
Please now go and add up all of your appliances
for your homework and discuss this number
with your neighbor
 Are there any noticeable differences b/n
each other?
 Any possible reasons why there are
differences or similarities?
 Prepare a statement explaining any
discoveries
Please brainstorm on your own
how we use electricity for
work?
Come up with some examples in
your mind and if need be write
them out in your notes.

We will not head to the staircase around the
corner and time ourselves in figuring out how
much power we as humans can create.
