Sunmotor Solar Power Systems
Introduction
Solar Power
Made Simple
• Photovoltaic solar
panels produce direct
current (dc power) when
the sun hits the face of
the panels. DC power
can be used to operate
pumps and motors, or to
charge deep cycle
batteries. Stored power
in batteries can be
converted to AC power
via an inverter.
Solar Water
Pumps
• Sunmotor has
developed a line of
pumps that operate
directly by solar
power. The pumps
start automatically
when the sun hits the
panels.
Agricultural
Applications
• A small solar array
connected to a
Sunmotor pump
delivers water for a
herd of cows in a
remote pasture.
Environmental
Applications
• Sunmotor pumps
are used for
environmental
remediation like
this brine clean-up
project for Devon
Energy.
Solar-Direct
Operation of D.C.
Motors
• Solar power can
operate larger DC
motors, as in this
example of powering
a jack-pump on a
deep well in Arizona.
The jack operates for
about 6 hours per day
in sunny weather.
Solar/Battery
Power Systems
• Where power is required
on demand, we store the
solar energy in deep
cycle batteries. This
examples shows a 1 kW
system supplying power
for continuous operation
of several small
dewatering pumps at a
remediation site in
southern Alberta.
Battery Power to
AC Voltage
• Where AC power is
required, we use
inverters to convert
DC battery power
to standard AC
voltage, either
single-phase or
three-phase output.
