HV upgrade - status
Crates R-1 and R-2 installed in the pit (20 distributors)
Connection established, demo monitor program works
Amplitude spectra identical with CAEN and BG HV
distributors!
Crate R-3 with 10 distributors already in CERN, wait to be
installed

HV upgrade - overview
Everything's goes fine
To finish upgrade needs 7-8 working days
Foreseen for summer this year (4.8 - 12.8)
Hardware commission: mid of August
Integration to DCS – autumn this year

Pixels repair
- Currently, 98 pixels on ToF-L don't work, and 24 on ToF-R
(our analysis, based on ToF online monitoring program)
- We found some spare PMTs with scintilators
6 cm – 1 pcs
(needed ~30)
7 cm – 17 pcs
(needed ~30)
8 cm – 25 pcs
(needed ~30)
-------------43 pcs
(needed ~90)
- Condition unknown, hope they are OK
- Replacement scheduled for mid August

PMTs
- FEU-87 doesn’t produce any more, no spare
- Hamamatsu R3478 founded as spare parts from Buda wall
- 20-30 pieces
- A lot more in Buda wall,
optically connected with
grease, can be dismounted
- Smaller than FEU,
mechanically can be
adapted to fit in existing
cassette

R3478 - Characteristic
- Wavelength (Peak): 420nm
- Dynode Stages: 8
(FEU-87 11!)
- Anode to Cathode Supply Voltage: 1700V
- Max Anode to Cathode Voltage: 1800V
- Gain Typ.: 1.7 x 106
- Rise Time Typ.: 1.3 ns
- Timing performance seems OK, but amplitude?
- Need to be justify, gain doesn’t seems OK!

Conclusion
- Hamamatsu PMT has to be tested with our scintillators
- According to characteristics, doesn’t look promising (gain)
- We need output of order of volts!
- I this PMT perform well, then we can think to produce
replacement for bad pixels in ToF

Obviously, this is not true!
We have to identify which jobs are not finished (Andras)
Then we have to see which can be done by Belgrade!
