October Calendar Journal
Teacher’s Guide
•
Students
Give each student a calendar
and Calendar
have them glue it on the first page
of a notebook. Have them write the year.
•
Students can go back to their seats after the teacher has gone over
the date and word on the carpet, and write the date and glue the leaf
with the vocabulary word for the day on their calendars. They can
color the leaf the correct color so they will be building the pattern with
you. They can also do it on the carpet with you. You could also have
them draw October things on their calendars along the edges. There is
also another version that has the numbers on the calendar and
pictures so the students could just match the numbers.
•
Have them write the word in a notebook and how many syllables it
has. You can have them clap the number of syllables as the group says
the word. Then they can draw a picture of the word and copy or write
a sentence, depending on the level of your group. We’ve also
included a template for your convenience. You can use this as a
center. Later in the year, the students can write more than one
sentence.
•
The students can use their notebooks during Writing Workshop to write
about October things. These words help to keep the students on topic.
•
You could also ask calendar questions like, “What day of the week is
the word Halloween?” or ” How many Fridays are in the month of
October?” “What day is October 15?”
