4. Which of the following is the broadest
classification into which scientists place
organisms from the same kingdom?
class
phylum
genus
family
5. What is an organism’s life cycle?
The stages of
growth that an
organism goes
through
Short Answer
6. Why are fungi grouped in their own
kingdom? How are they like plants?
How are they not like plants?
Fungi looks like a plant,
but fungi can’t make their
own food. Due to this fact
scientists put fungi in their
own kingdom.
7. Name the five basic jobs that all living
things carry out.
8. Name three traits of organisms
belonging to the animal kingdom.
move
Have many cells
Do not make
their own food
9. What is the purpose of the tubes that run
through the roots and stems in most
plants?
Tubes carry water
and nutrients from
the ground up to the
plant’s leaves. This
is important to help
the plant carry out
photosynthesis.
10. What is the main job of roots?
What type of roots does grass have?
What type of roots does a carrot
have?
Plants have roots to hold
them in place and to collect
water and nutrients. Grass
has fibrous roots and
carrots have a tap roots.
11. Imagine you were on a distant planet. On
this planet there was soil, air, and sunshine.
However, the planet doesn’t have any bugs or
wind. If seeds from fruit trees were planted,
the trees would grow. Why wouldn’t fruit ever
grow on the trees?
The trees would never
produce fruit because
there is no wind or bugs to
pollinate the flowers.
Without pollination seeds
can’t form! No seeds, no
fruit!
