second largest rainforest.

Central America is famous for its
large number of tropical birds,
including many kinds of parrots.

Bangladesh has the largest area of
mangrove forests in the world.

Many different species of animals that live in
rain forest are not found any other place else in
the world.

What is a Rain Forest?
Closed Canopy in which the treetops touch each
other, creating a shaded forest interior.
Rainfall is high and even all year long.
Rain forests are typically hot and humid.
Rain forests are found near the equator.

EMERGENT LAYER
The tallest trees are the emergents,
towering as much as 200 feet above
the forest floor with trunks that
measure up to 16 feet around.
CANOPY LAYER
This is the primary layer of the
forest and forms a roof over the two
remaining layers.
UNDERSTORY LAYER
Little sunshine reaches this area so
the plants have to grow larger
leaves to reach the sunlight.
FOREST FLOOR
It's very dark down here. Almost no

plants grow in this area.
