Ivan Kupala is one of the most important and
loved holidays of Russian folk. It is celebrated
at the night from the 6-th to 7-th of July.
People believed, that this night hides many
mysteries and possibilities which are
impossible at any other night. Popular
believes of our folk tell, that nature shows
people its magic power this night-trees go
from place to place, speak to other rustling
with their leaves, people begin understand
language of animals and plants, which get
advisable power.
Kupala night is very especial. People thought
that all witches celebrated their holiday at
that night. Essence of that holiday was making
troubles for people. Also our ancestors
believed that witches made especial water,
boiling river water with ash of kupala
campfire. This water made wiches flying.
• One of the most important attribute of kupala fest is
kupala campfire. People gathered around it, sang
songs, danced, played noisy and crazy games,
jumped through it. By the way, wise people foretold
human destinies seeing their jumps. People believed,
that kupala flame will protect then from evil spirits.
That is why they took firebrands from kupala
campfire and kept them till new summer.
Main kupala popular belief is blossoming of fern.
Wide leaves begin to move about the middle
night. Burning flower appears at the middle
night. Invisible hand tears down it, human can
do it almost never. But if somebody will find and
have it, he ( or she) will become almost
allmightly-will
know all Natures secrets, unkind masters
and bad people will not trouble him,
evil spirits will serve him. Maybe you
will try to find ferns flower. But
remember, go home if you will take it
and don’t look back even if you hear
somebodys calling you. Otherwise evil
spirits will take your soul forever.
