STATISTICAL SYSTEM OF PAKISTAN
The Statistical System Of Pakistan is a combination of
both the centralized and de-centralized systems. At
the federal level, it consists of Statistics Division and
its attached departments and a few other statistical
cells working in other Ministries/Divisions to meet
their specific data requirements. Provincial Bureaus
of Statistics are responsible for collection,
compilation and dissemination of data on provincial
subjects as well as coordination among statistical
cells functioning in various provincial departments.

Functions of Statistics Division
• Preparation of an overall integrated plan for development and
improvement of Statistics in Pakistan and to estimate the budgetary
requirements thereof.
• Preparation of annual programmes in accordance with agreed
priorities and to assign responsibilities for the execution of their
component items.
• Examination and clearance of budgetary proposals for annual
programmes for statistical improvements and developments.
• Formulation of policy regarding general statistics for Pakistan and
implementation thereof by suitably adopting the statistical system
of Pakistan to conform with the policy.
• Coordination with the Provincial and Federal Governments, semi
autonomous bodies and international organizations on statistical
matters bearing directly or indirectly on such subjects as trade,
industry, prices, expenditure, input-output accounts, flow of funds,
balance of payments, etc.

• Housing & Population Census, 1998 completed and
161 census reports at different levels released.
• Preparation & release of 14 big and 42 medium city
reports by December, 2006.
• Preparation & release of 4 monographs on migration
and urbanization, labour force, literacy/education,
fertility/mortality and population profile at national
and provincial level, by December, 2004
• Preparation & release of District Brochures of 106
districts by December, 2005.
• Preparation & release of special reports (one each on
women, children, disability and housing conditions)
at national and provincial level, by January, 2005.19
• Preparation & release of special area reports for
Cholistan and Thar by December, 2003.
• Updation of 4229 maps by December 2006.
