 Yearly precipitation in the Temperate Seasonal Forest
is 30-60 inches
 Average Climate for this forest is 50 °F(10 °C).
 The average temperature in temperate deciduous
forests is 50°F (10°C). Summers are mild, and average
about 70°F (21°C), while winter temperatures are often
well below freezing. Trees and plants in deciduous
forests have special adaptations to survive in
this biome.
 Plant species: Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers as well
as other small plants like shrubs and grass.
 Avian animal species: hawks, cardinals, snowy owls,
and pileated woodpeckers
 Land mammal species: white-tailed deer,
raccons, opossums, porcupines and red foxes
 Rodents, deer, birds and insects are
the primary consumers of this
biomes eating fruit from trees
flowers, ferns and nematodes.
 Cougars and bears are the much
larger predators while foxes, owls,
opossums , certain avian species
and skunks are the smaller
predators.
 A limiting factor to the Temperate deciduous forest is
allelopathy which affects the plants ability to absorb
nutrients from the soil located in the area cause from
acidity.
 Humans have influenced the Temperate deciduous
forest negatively the primary means is deforestation.
 Deforestation causes the forest to lose many habitats
from the destruction of the trees, which can lead to
endangering certain animal species, or causing them
to go extinct, these effects can lead to a decrease in the
biodiversity of the world, also all the water won’t be
absorbed by the trees leading to flooding of the forest
killing many different plants and animal species, and
cause the nitrogen to mix with the water causing acid
deposition.
 Humans have impacted the Temperate deciduous
forest by leaving the forests in an undisturbed state by
preventing people from affecting, for example : free
from logging, grazing, and no deforestation allowed
and or other intensive uses.
 The main Instrumental values to humans are
 Food supply
 Source of timber
 A reservoir of oxygen
