Infinitive
•Base form of a verb tense – simple present.
e.g. go , went . Gone.
•Comes after the main verb
E.g. He went to buy a car.
Main verb

•Most infinitives comes after “to”
e.g. I went to open the door.
He ordered me to sit down.
She asked him to post the letter.
•Always in simple present.
e.g. He is going out
He has gone out
He will go out

Use of infinitives
To give more information about
the purpose of an action

Bare infinitives
Infinitives without “TO”
When the main verbs are :
LET , MAKE and HEAR,
we don’t use “to” with an infinitive.
Don’t let him play on the road.
He made me cry.
I heard them sing.
