ABCD of Skin Cancer
• Asymmetry
– Normal moles or freckles are completely symmetrical
(draw a line down the middle and the two halves will
be the same).
– If skin cancer is present, the spot will not look the
same on both sides.
• Border
– A mole or spot with blurry and/or jagged edges.
• Color
– A mole that has more than one color or changes color
(lighter or darker)
• Diameter
– If a spot is larger than a pencil eraser.
Malignant Tumor = Cancerous
Benign Tumor = Not Cancerous
Metastasis- when cancer
spreads from it’s original site to
other parts of the body
