Comparison to thyristor bridge
Motoring
bridge
© Copyright year ABB - 34 -
If thyristor bridge is regenerating
and line voltage drops, a
thyristor cannot interrupt the
current. The current can rush
and blow the fuses. This is also
risk for components.
IGBT is able to switch off the
current and protect the
components. Control can
function even during voltage dip.

Introduction to DTC control
Excellent motor control in all situations
Torque step rise time

DTC
< 5 msec.
Flux vector

Open loop PWM
> 100 msec.

DTC principle utilised also on
line converter control

DTC and line side converter

Ultra-fast transition between
motoring and generating
Line converter is capable of
keeping the DC voltage steady

Motoring and generating
performance is equal
Linear and smooth
transitions are possible

Good power factor and harmonic performance -> economical
transformer dimensioning
Voltage stabilisation

Line converter control follows
DC voltage reference
ACS800-17 and line voltage 400V
U1=400V
Udc=560V
In low network voltage
conditions motor still gets full

This is advantage in motor
dimensioning

It is possible to set DC voltage
reference to higher value
… and use 500 Vac class
equipment in 400 Vac network
Optimisation possibility
depending on the load curve
Constant flux range can be
