Shivering increases body temperature.
Food supplies the body with energy to
maintain body temperature.
Clothes help stop heat loss.
Inability to maintain body temperature causes
hypothermia.
Know how to save a person suffering from
hypothermia.
Cold Blooded Animals 1.
1. Animals like lizards
cannot make enough
heat from their food
to enable them to be
warmer than their
surroundings.
2. Their body
temperature is the
same as their
surroundings.
Cold Blooded Animals 2.
3.
They tend to be more active during the
day.
4. A tropical fish from the Amazon would
not survive in Scotland.

animals like mammals
keep their body at a
constant
temperature no
matter where they
are.
Warm Blooded Animals 2.
2.
Humans are warm blooded animals and

people.
Hypothermia 2.

hypothermia and actions to be taken

white.
4. Slow to react
mentally.
5. Unusual behavior.
1. Wrap in warm
blanket.
2. Give a warm
sweet drink but
NOT alcohol.
3,4,5 Increase room
heating slowly.
Maintaining Body Temperature.
1. The brain controls
body temperature.
2. When we are hot, the
brain makes our body
sweat and this cools
us down.
3. When we are cold,
the brain makes the
body shiver and this
makes us heat up.
