The Importance of Grass
• 1) How is the grass important to the three animals described
in the video?
• 2) What would happen to the populations of species if the
grass growth was slow and not plentiful?
• 3) What would happen to the populations of species if the
grass growth was fast and plentiful?
Boom- and- Bust Cycle
• The boom-and-bust cycle is very common among r-selected
organisms. There is a rapid increase in the population and
then equally rapid drop off.
• Changes may be linked to predictable cycles in the
environment
• Good Conditions: Population Increase
• Bad Conditions: Population Decrease

Population
Time (in years)
Predator – Prey Cycle
• As prey population decline, predator populations decline
• As prey population increase, predator populations increase
• Predator Populations will increase only after prey populations
known as lag- time as they need time to reproduce.
