Austrian activities in cooperation with the CHM-Austria
„Vielfaltleben“ (= living diversity)
 Kind of action:
Biodiversity campaign started in January 2009
 Main sponsoring:
Austrian Ministry of Agric., Forestry, Env. and Water Manag., Birdlife
Austria, Naturschutzbund Austria and World Wide Fund for Nature
 Conducted and supported by:
Many different organisations, municipalities and CHM-A
 Aim:
1. Conservation of biodiversity by promoting projects dealing with:
- in situ conservation of species and habitats supporting the survival
especially of endangered species
- recultivation of habitats
2. Raise public awareness for biodiversity and nature conservation

 Kind of activities in 2010:
several events to present these conservation projects and their results
as well as activities to inform people on different aspects of
biodiversity
 Selected activities are:
- 27th January: official starting event of the “IYB” in Austria
- installing of a local Municipality-network & contest electing the “local
biodiversity champ”
- 22nd-29th May: “biodiversity week” including the “Geo-day” organized
in all Austrian National parks
- activities all over the year in co-operation with the sponsors of the
selected species for the campaign
- special events for children and the young
- cooperation with TV and newspapers
- final “vielfaltleben”-gala at the end of the year

Neobiota in Austria
 Kind of action:
Exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Lower Austria
 Start of exhibition:
April 2010
 Organisation:
Natural History Museum of Lower Austria, Umweltbundesamt
(Environment Agency Austria) and CHM-A
 Aim:
Awareness raising for the subject “alien species” and to provide
information on effects on the local flora and fauna, on methods and
measurements to reduce the impact of neobiota

Status of biodiversity in Austria
 Kind of Action:
Report on the State of the Environment to the Austrian Parliament at
the end of June 2010;
special chapter focusing on the status of biodiversity in Austria
 Conducted by:
the Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt)
 Aim:
- Highlight the need for action in future in order to provide for the
conservation of biodiversity.
- Initiate new measures intensifying or complementing ongoing
activities to reduce the loss of biodiversity.
