The Digestive System
A SYSTEM OF THE HUMAN BODY
By, Colin
• Let’s say that it is your birthday. Right now
you are taking a big bite of cake, how does
your cake get from one end of your body
to the other?
THE POWER OF THE DIGESTIVE
SYSTEM
STARTING
• Your piece of cake will start there journey
in the digestive system in the mouth.
• In your mouth the piece of cake will be
chewed up into lots of teeny, tiny pieces.
• Your tongue helps to taste the food, and to
push your food to the next part of the
journey.
DOWN IT GOES
• The esophagus is the next step on the
journey.
• After your cake is chewed, the tongue
pushes against the top of your mouth This
moves the chewed up cake toward the
pharynx. The pharynx is the top part of
your esophagus.
NEXT STOP
• Now your food will make its way to the stomach.
• The stomach is shaped like a J. Its inside wall is
lined up with millions of gland. These glands
make gastric juice, which has special acids that
break down and digest food.
• Food is stored in the stomach for about 4 hours.
Then it is released, or let go of into the small
intestine.
All Ashore
• Now your food will enter the state of small
intestine. The small intestine is a long
narrow tunnel of muscle. It is uneven and
covered with bumps.
• The small intestine absorbs or takes in
nutrients.
• What ever can’t be absorbed gets passed
to the large intestine.
Last Stop
• Now the food will enter its last stop, the
large intestine.
• There, any extra water and salts are
absorbed
Here's a fact:
The small intestine is longer, and the large
intestine is shorter.
THANK YOU
AND REMEMBER…
