Newton’s Second Law of Motion
Force is proportional to mass and
acceleration
F= ma
Net external force = mass x acceleration
If you apply
more force to
an object, it
accelerates at
a higher rate.
If an object
has more
mass it
accelerates at
a lower rate
because mass
has inertia.
Newton's Second Law
Three forms of the second law:
Newton’s Third Law
For every action, there is an
equal and opposite reaction
Forces always exist in pairs;
these are called
action-reaction pairs
Action-reaction pairs do not cancel each
other out because the forces are acting on
different objects
