Before the change of the political system
In the years 1960 - 1980 Starogard Gdanski was a major industrial center of
Gdansk region. A good example of this status was Pharmaceutical Works
„Polfa”, which exported to more than 60 countries on all the continents and
employed over 3000 workers. After privatization the company changed its
name to Polpharma. Following extensive modernization, the company
drastically reduced the number of personnel. Nowadays, Polpharma is one
of the biggest and most technologically advanced pharmaceutical
production plants in Europe. Other companies had mixed luck. Such was
the case of Neptun company specializing in leather production. At its peak
economic condition Neptun employed almost 3300 people only
to
eventually disappear from the market.
The economy
Apart from large manufacturing plants, such as Zakłady Farmaceutyczne
Polpharma S.A. (the largest pharmaceutical company in Poland), Fabryka
Mebli Okrętowych Famos (ship furniture manufacturer), Destylarnia
Sobieski S.A.(distillery), a great number of medium-sized and small
enterprises operating in timber, metal and chemical industries are
present in Starogard Gdanski. Their potential can be ideal for cooperating
with large business entities.
Business environment
Starogard Gdanski has offices of: Internal Revenue Service, Customs
Office, Sanitary and Epidemiological Station and National Labor
Inspectorate. In Starogard there are branches of all major banks operating
in Poland. Close proximity to Tri City area allows for cooperation with
research and higher education institutes such as Technical University of
Gdansk and Gdynia Maritime University.
Development of housing construction
City structure plan created within the framework
of land development policy shows areas
designated for housing and housing - services
construction with dark orange and pink colors.
At present , the City is planning development of
housing construction and has land designated
for the purpose of multi - family housing
construction.
After work
Starogard is not just a good location for investment opportunity, it is also an
attractive place to live. The city has several hotels of different standard. There are
numerous apartments and houses for rent. The city also has plots of land for
housing construction for sale. Spending free time in Starogard is easy. Storagard
is an ideal place for active people. It is surrounded by forest and when cycling in
any direction within several dozens of minutes one will come across a river or a
lake in a forest.
One can also relax while kayaking, sailing , horse riding or fishing. There are
numerous football pitches in the city ( including those with artificial turf), sport halls,
an indoor swimming pool and a climbing wall. Those interested in cultural activities
may choose from a rich offer of Starogard’s cultural centers or take advantage of an
