STRATEGII DE CONTROL A FA
•
•
The FMD status of country /region can be defined as endemic, epidemic (sporadic), or free.
FMD-free regions can be defined by :
- national borders (e.g., Australia, Indonesia),
- supranational borders (e.g., Europe, North America)
- disease free zones within non-free areas maintained by movement
control (e.g., Zimbabwe).
•
•
The historically free of FMD, Australia being a prime example.
Other regions have eradicated FMD, following :
-mass annual prophylactic vaccination campaigns
-application of zoosanitary measures following outbreaks.
The basis to control FMD is to limit access of the virus to FMD-susceptible animals.
•
•
The methods of control depend upon the prevalence of the disease :
- stamping out
- vaccination and stamping out
- buffer zones between the vaccination /non-vaccination area
- annual vaccination along borders
CONTROL FA ÎN PREZENŢA
VACCINĂRII
•
FMD outbreaks were numerous throughout Europe ;
•
However, as a result a large-scale production of vaccine use as mass annual vaccination in most of country
reduce the outbreaks
•
Some countries never vaccinated (e.g., U K Ireland), or had given up vaccination a long time ago
(Denmark), control FMD through :
-importation control,
-slaughter
- zoosanitary measures.
Mass annual prophylactic vaccination was very successful in totally eliminating European outbreaks by
1990.
Inactivated cell culture vaccine
Romania –ring vaccination around borders till 1991
- import and movement control
VACCINAREA SOLUŢIE DE NECESITATE
• EU FMD Policy Post 1991
- Directive 90/423/EC, - non-vaccination policy to control FMD in
Europe
- The experience of the EU since 1991 confirmed that the nonvaccination policy was correct. (Italy in 1993; Greece in 1994 and
1996) .
- However- vaccination stop the virus spread to the susceptible
animals so – ring emergency vaccination could take in the
consideration
