What is SIP?
• Stands for “Session Initiation Protocol”.
• A set of rules that provides the basic signals used to
initiate, manage and terminate communications.
What’s Different About SIP?
• Ability to CONVERGE real world communications infrastructure far
beyond the ability of traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone
Network).
• SIP and its supporting extensions and protocols is being designed as
the industry standard session control protocol for setting-up and
controlling all voice, video, broadband, mobile and multimedia
communications; and enable internetworking between IP-based telecom
networks and non-SIP telecom networks such as traditional telephony.
Real World Benefits of SIP
• VoIP mobility. Location independence instead of the traditional
attachment to physical location of PSTN.
• Ease and speed of provisioning to end-users and disaster recovery
security.
• Choice and cost. Simple IP connections with the public internet or
private IP infrastructure gives the consumer greater options, less
dependence on hardware and a greatly reduced price.
What is SIP Trunking?
• It’s a VoIP trunk that utilizes SIP for session control.
• Enables pure IP connection from the enterprise to the carrier and
connection through the carrier’s PSTN gateway to the public
network.
• The enterprise doesn’t need to maintain its own circuit-switched
handoff to the PSTN.
SIP Trunking Benefits
• Only need to maintain one IP-based connection for both data and voice.
• Separate on-premise PSTN and data circuits no longer required.
• Fewer circuits, less interfaces, more efficiency, more cost effectiveness.
• Easier to maintain diverse and redundant IP-based connections to
ensure superior reliability and security.
SIP Trunking Benefits
• No longer need to buy or maintain multiple PSTN connections
and dedicated PSTN interface hardware.
• No longer need PRI connection.
• Increased enterprise productivity and applications efficiency.
AireSpring is one of the first major carriers to support Teleblock
call compliance on a VoIP/SIP Trunking platform.
