Multi-protocol ADM
Reducing the Cost of Infrastructure using Fewer Wavelengths
 Typical Point to Point Transport Solution
 Multi-Protocol ADM
Aggregation of services without the Ekinops Multi-Protocol ADM
takes 2 line cards (source and dest) and 1 wavelength for each
service type being aggregated.
Aggregation of services with the Ekinops Multi-Protocol ADM
takes 1 line card for each site (regardless of number of
protocols dropped) and 1 wavelength is shared across all
aggregation sites.
Less Equipment, Better Utilization of your infrastructure
Less Equipment = Lower Ongoing Costs (Power)
Can be implemented over a wavelength or leased service
Page 19
Page 19
Multi-Protocol/Rate ADM using
the unique card C1008DC
 Multiple service types and rates can be added and dropped off of a single
10G wavelength shared by multiple sites with only 1 muxponder at each
site

HD-SDI & SD-SDI solutions
Native video transport
 Transport any digital video format : HD-SDI, SD-SDI, ASI
+ GbE and FE in the same 10G wavelength
Customers: TV/Video broadcasters, Pre-Post Production companies,
Film distributors who all need to work on uncompressed video signals
 All services over the same fiber/λ: Video & Ethernet services
 IPTV / Video projects
 Specific enterprise projects
Advantages of
EKINOPS solution
 Auto sense or individually configurable video ports
 Unidirectional channels: enables for both unidirectional and
bidirectional connections
 Ultimate bandwidth utilization : up
to 4x HD/SD SDI +GE over 1x10Gλ
 Transport over extra long
distances without signal degradation
 Build large-scale media networks
with many different traffic types
Less than ½ the cost of traditional
mechanisms for doing this!

Cost efficient aggregation and
transport over long distances
(300km without amplification,
2000km with amplifiers)
Page 45
Video
Applications, Enterprise/CMS

Deliver an uncompressed high
definition video signal (HD)

Broadcasters need to access HD
content from studios, live events
(Sports, news and political
conventions) and post-production
companies

Although transporting SDI and HD SDI
can be achieved by compressing these
signals, the quality is enhanced when
these signals are transported in their
uncompressed format.

40G 100GHz Muxponder Architecture
Flexible Multiplexing and Add Drop of Lower Rates Services

The 40G 100GHz Muxponder utilizes 10G
Chameleon Cards to Multiplex virtually any mix of
protocols into the 40G line

Each Chameleon could be a native 10G with no
lower rate services or one of the Chameleon cards
with the desired multiplexing capability


Each Chameleon can be a single slot or double slot
depending on the mix of traffic being multiplexed.
Single and Double can be mixed.

With the double wide, each underlying service can
be added and dropped (ADM capability supported
for each service)

Bonds the
Wavelengths
Chameleon cards can be added one at a time to
provide a true "pay as you grow" architecture

Allows for a Multi-Rate, Multi-Protocol ADM into 1
40G Wavelength only requiring 1 transponder at
each site
Does not require separate Multiplexing cards for
rates under 10G like other 40G muxponders

Reduces hardware costs by more than 50% for
complex multiplexing applications
