Migration Requirements
Internal domain names for servers must be
different
Server names (NETBIOS) must be different
The source server will be decommissioned, so
services such as DHCP will be offered by new
server
Migration uses ADMT and Exchange Migration
Wizard (which means manual export of mailbox
rules, Admin mailbox and public folders)
Custom settings on new server have to be setup by
hand
DNS must be running on both systems during
migration
Prepare for Migration
Ensure the source server is running the
latest service packs
Back up the source server
Collect system necessary information
Export public folders, Administrator account
mailbox and rules
Disable DHCP on old system
Install SBS 2003 on destination Server
Complete up to network setup
Notify users that they must log off of the
domain.
Prepare Client Computers
Export mail rules
Remove personal firewalls
Remove shared modem client (SBS)
Remove ISA client if not using ISA 2000 on
new server
Release & renew DHCP addresses
Delete any SBS specific links from desktop
and IE
Delete SBS faxes or printers
