What is IPTV?



IPTV does not mean that a person will log on to a
webpage to watch their favorite TV shows over
“IP” stands for Internet protocol
-method that will be used to send information
over a secure network
- the terminals can be computers or TV sets
Extra bandwidth will allow consumer to do
several things at the same time
-email access, TV based caller id, etc.
How to receive IPTV
Service providers will create a fiber
networks
 Then place a box, called “residential
gateway”
 This will connect the computers,
telephones and TVs with high speeds

Cost of IPTV


Consumer
-$250-300 for installation, plus the cost of set top
box
Providers
- cost of developing the fiber optic network
- SBC planning to spend $6 Billion over next
three years
