What is a Static IP?
A static IP address is a number (in the form of a dotted quad) that is
assigned to a device by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its
permanent address on the Internet. Computers use IP addresses to
locate and talk to each other on the Internet, much the same way
people use phone numbers to locate and talk to one another on the
telephone.

Why do customers need static IPs?
You run one or more Web , Email or FTP server's directly on your
site that require external access from the Internet.
You run any other service or 'Application' that requires external
access from the Internet.

Why do some customers need so many?
Customers may request larger blocks of IPs if they have multiple
servers or applications that require access from the Internet.
All requests for multiple IPs should be validated.

What equipment is required additional IPs ?
For Knology Fiber and Matrix customers requiring more than one (1)
static IP address, the customer will need to have in place a device
capable of Layer 3 routing. This device could be a router, switch or
firewall. Knology will route all additional IPs to the WAN/Gateway
interface of that device via a single IP (/30). The customer will then
manage the additional subnet provided via their layer 3 capable
equipment. Knology does NOT manage IPs beyond the
WAN/Gateway interface.
