nobility overthrew last
Etruscan king and began
a republic: all citizens
who voted held power

Rome Expands!
STRONG ARMY facilitates expansion
Sometimes crushes enemies; sometimes granted citizenship

Three conflicts between 264 and 146BCE
Arose from economic competition and grew into struggle for supremacy in
the region
