The Romans wanted to make sure that one person
couldn't become all powerful. They also wanted to
make sure the laws were fair.

Julius Caesar became a dictator and he was
assassinated by the Senate. Before he died
Rome was a Republic. After he died, there was
civil war and Rome became an empire.

They were polytheistic. They worshiped many
gods.

He made Christianity the official religion, instead
of persecuting Christians. He also conquered
the West and united Rome again for a short
