Sparta was a city-state in the country of Greece.
It contained rich, fertile soil, which helped them
because it allowed them to have plenty of crops.
Sparta also had its own river which was called
Evorotas and since Sparta was located near the
Mediterranean ocean it gave Spartans unlimited
access to water. Sparta was considered
mountainous and flat. It had plains in which the
Spartans grew many crops including olives,
grapes, and figs.

The Spartan army was known for their bravery and
great skills on the battle field. They not only used
great warfare tactics but came up with a few things
that would help them during battle.
During battle Spartan men were equipped with
bronze breastplates, helmets and cheek plates, which
protected them from unsuspected blows to the body.
As weapons, Spartans used spears called dorus that
was 7-9 feet in length. They also used Kopis, which
was a short sword that the Spartans used to slice, stab
and kill their enemies in close combat. This sword was
curved and heavy which also gave them a
tremendous amount of control during battle.
