Data: raw, unorganized facts presented to
the computer for processing
Data frequently entered into the computer in the
medical office:

Program: a set of instructions organized in

Tells the computer how to perform a specific

Data process cycle includes three phases:
input, processing, output
Input: the transfer of data to the computer for
processing – includes:

data

Converting them into an electronic form (code) that can be
understood by the computer
Must be converted back into a form that can be understood
by the user
User: the individual using the computer
Input device: device used to enter data into the
